Don't forget to check my get unstuck live workshops happening in November + December
Hey Reader,
Fab here, back with Power-Up #4 ๐
Before that though, enjoy a snap of little old me talking about all the very special Canva AI secrets that you can tap into to make your marketing assets work harder for you.
And yes, there was also a selfie involved. You can see it on my LinkedIn.โ
I digress, what are we talking about today?
Oh YES, my favourite lil hidden dropdown question worth adding to 95% of lead forms ๐
When applications opened for our latest cohort, I wanted more people to apply and I wanted to know where to put my time and budget, paid ads included.
So I added one extra question to the application form: "How did you hear about us?"
Every applicant answered it, and this is what I found:
30% said they came from our ads. That shocked me, because the click-through rate wasn't huge. The people who did click were really enticed, and that told me a lot.
The answers also showed me the two places most worth putting my time and budget into, and which two partners were really getting people onto our website.
It was a very simple change, and it made all the difference to where I spend. So that's this week's Power-Up.
Power-Up #4: add the question to your forms
- Pick a form where people already say yes, like an application, a booking or a sign-up.
- Add one question: "How did you hear about us?"
- Keep it quick to answer.
- Check the answers regularly and look for your top two.
It only works if you read the answers ๐
How To Actually Do This
Two ways to ask, depending on how you like your data.
Multiple choice. Easy to count. Add an "Other, tell me" option for the things you didn't think of.
Open text. Slower to read, but it catches things you'd never list, like a partner's name or a podcast you forgot you were on.
Start with whichever one you'll actually read. (Yes, I'm talking to the part of you that wants to build the perfect dropdown first.)
Step-By-Step Process
- Pick the one form where people are already saying yes.
- Write the question in plain words: "How did you hear about us?"
- Choose multiple choice with an "Other" box, or open text.
- Add it, then test the form once yourself.
- After a few weeks, group the answers, find your top two and put your next bit of time and budget behind them.
Which form are you adding it to?
Always cheering you on
